Do you really know Soumyabuddha Debnath, Intern within SKEMA Research & Knowledge Transfer Department since May 2025? Let’s check it out!

A skill you are currently developing that excites you the most: Data storytelling: I’m developing this skill to bridge the gap between analysis and action.

A professional field or industry that inspires you and why: Data Science. The field inspires me because of its ability to unlock insights from complex information.

A project or assignment at SKEMA that you have found particularly interesting: One of the most engaging projects at SKEMA was my master’s thesis with Professor Chitu Okoli, where we used explainable AI techniques to analyse ESG data and uncover how organisational factors impact environmental performance at the country level. The project expanded my interest in model interpretability and sustainability analytics.

A book, movie, or series that has changed how you see the world: Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O’Neil. It’s an eye-opening read on how unchecked algorithms can deepen inequality and shape high stake decisions in our lives.

The innovator or changemaker you would like to have coffee with: Geoffrey Hinton.

A podcast, or YouTube channel you would recommend: ’Veritasium’.

Your dream job: A museum curator, but thankfully I’m completely unqualified, so it gets to remain safely in the realm of dream jobs.

A place that feels like home, no matter where you are: At a library, or any place where silence feels productive.

One thing that surprised you about SKEMA so far: Meeting talented colleagues from so many different backgrounds.

The best advice you’ve received as a student or young professional: “Don’t chase answers, ask better questions.”
